Description

Edible Black Scorpions are Asian Forest Scorpions (Heterometrus Longimanus sp). You can find them for sale on the Thailand Unique brand website.

They are native to Thailand and Southeast Asia and are a delicacy to those living there. They are one of the few species known to be edible.
Scorpions are ancient animals. Fossil records indicate that they existed about 425 – 450 million years ago during the Silurian period and evolved from an amphibious ancestor.

They source their scorpions from local farms. The farms breed scorpions for human consumption and feed them crickets and worms.

So, what do they taste like?

Curious about their taste? Their meat, evolved from the sea, offers a unique flavor profile. Some liken it to prawns, others to liquorice without the sweetness, or even dark chocolate. The dehydrated version has a jerky-like texture and is packed with nutrition.

Every part of the scorpion is edible, but the tough pincers and venom bulb should be removed. The meaty torso is the best-tasting part. Their scorpions undergo a rigorous and hygienic process in their HACCP-accredited factory. They are flash frozen, cleaned, and boiled, then machine dehydrated for more than 24 hours. This ensures their safety and quality, and they have a shelf life of more than one year.
